Fun with Physics at the Dorset Show
- Choose your experiment…
The weekend-long agricultural show on the outskirts of Dorchester attracts families from miles around who were entertained not only by Monster Trucks, show-jumping and prize vegetables but also by an array of hands-on science fun!
'Best In Show' for Musical Straw playing
Young and old, visitors to the stand experimented with skewering balloons, testing the principles of buoyancy with ‘Cartesian Divers ‘ and explained the science behind some amazingly big & tasty-looking marshmallows (which were just a little too good to be true!)*. More than 500 people took part and many ’Marvin & Milo ~ Do Try This At Home’ postcards were taken away by budding scientists, keen to discover more about physics!
As a Specialist Science College the Thomas Hardye School is committed to creating an enthusiasm for Science and Maths amongst the wider community, and events like this are just part of their extensive outreach programme.

I really enjoyed my day working on the stand. Many of those who came and took part were amazed and excitied by the activities. Esp. when the marshmallows shrank!
