Friday evening saw the first public screening of a new biopic about Professor Stephen Hawking at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

But the documentary film, Hawking, was shown to Institute of Physics fellows in a private pre-screening two weeks earlier on 12 June. The private viewing was organised by IOP, which hired the British Academy of Film and Television Arts’ Princess Anne Theatre in London for the occasion.  Hawking himself is credited as one of the screenwriters for the documentary, in which he tells his life story in his own words.

Following the screening IOP’s chief executive, Prof Paul Hardaker, hosted a question and answer session with the film’s director, Stephen Finnigan, and executive producer, Ben Bowie. Below you can listen to this Q&A yourself. Enjoy!

Hawking is due to go on general release in September.
