Invisibility cloaks emerge from a strange new metamaterial world lectures events

The open lecture Invisibility cloaks emerge from a strange new metamaterial world kicks off with a new look at elementary optics and the adoption of the usual definition of refractive index. It then moves on to a magical world of photonic metamaterials that lead directly to invisibility cloaking.

The latter not only involves hiding objects but hiding events as well, making possible the covert interruption of non-interruptible computers and creating the illusion of a Star Trek transporter.

Speaker: Prof. Allan Boardman, University of Salford
Date: 25 January, 6.30 p.m.
Venue: John Dalton Building, Manchester Metropolitan University, Oxford Road, Manchester, M15 6BH
