IOP writes to Lord Drayson re STFC re-prioritisation

Following last week’s announcement on STFC’s programme prioritisation, IOP has written to Lord Drayson welcoming his intention to review the structural and financial tensions inherent in STFC’s portfolio, and expressing our intention to provide input to that review. We have taken the opportunity to express concern about two aspects in particular of STFC’s re-prioritisation – the cut in young researchers being trained through fellowships and studentships, and the possible impact of cuts on the long-term viability of nuclear physics research in the UK. We will be collecting evidence on these issues to help us compile recommendations to government in the new year.
