Physics Videos Roundup: Friday 26 October 2012
After a brief hiatus, our roundup of the week’s best physics videos is back! We have quantum theory, Higgs updates, Iron Man suits and.. boo bubbles, whatever they are?! What are you waiting for? Hit play!
The Origin of Quantum Theory (feat. Neil Turok)
This is a great demonstration of Max Planck’s work in quantum theory in relation to light. It poses the question how do you feed a cookie to an infinite amount of children? I couldn’t share with that many people!
Higgs Boson update from CERN
What now for CERN and the Higgs boson? Our favourite Australian science Youtuber Veritasium gets great access to the physicists who made the discovery and what it means for the standard model.
He also did a video about levitating magnetic barbeques (Should you be interested in that sort of thing)
Underwater Explosions (Science with Alan Sailer!) – Smarter Every Day 63
What happens when you give scientists a high speed camera and some explosives?
You end up discovering a fluid dynamics mystery. Can you work it out?
NASA’s Iron Man suit helps astronauts and paraplegics
It might not be used as a crime fighting tool as it is in the comic books and films but this exoskeleton has great applications to be used in foreign planets, or back home for people with disabilities.
Wearing the device could both limit movement on planets with low gravity and add movement for those who need it.
Boo Bubbles – Dry Ice Science – Sick Science! #111
Why make your own boo bubbles this weekend? Boo bubbles are amazing bubbles made with soap and dry ice. This is a must see for those who love and experiment or like showing off with exciting demonstrations.
Supersonic Freefall – Red Bull Stratos CGI
I couldn’t resist including a Felix Baumgartner video and this one has been enhanced with CGI. Very Tron-like.
Thanks for watching. Have you stumbled across any eye catching physics videos recently? Share your favourites with us in the comments below, or take the conversation to Twitter using the #physicsvideos hashtag.
And don’t forget, we have loads of interesting content on the IOP YouTube channel. Have a great weekend!
