Pop-up particle physics
Particle physics can be difficult to get to grips with. And perhaps this is what CERN science writer (and ex-IOP employee) Emma Sanders had in mind as she worked on a pop-up book about CERN’s ATLAS experiment.
‘We wanted to give an idea of the scale of the experiments here and the major discoveries we are hoping to make, in a way that is both fun and accessible,’ she says.
Designed with the help of paper engineer Anton Radevsky, the end result is Voyage to the Heart of Matter, released in the UK in November to
coincide with the LHC’s much anticipated return to form.
The book’s 3D elements include a rendition of the Big Bang and a replica of the ATLAS detector that readers can piece together themselves.
“The physics going on at CERN is quite mind-blowing and turning it into a pop-up book has been great fun,” comments Emma.

Wonderful !
Dear Sir/Madam:
If the Book “include a rendition of the Big Bang….” Is only telling the classic TALE for children, since the Big Bang is only another invention without any Scientific basis;
See, pleas: http://autodynamicslborg.blogspot.com/2011/05/big-bang-fantasia-of-20-century_8153.html
Some times the CERN’s Physics include fantasies and inventions like the Higgs’ Particle, Dark Matter and Energy, another fantasies to support the Wrong Einstein’s FANTASIA.
