After being made redundant by trustees at the Royal Institution, it is now being widely reported that Baroness Greenfield will sue for sexual discrimination.
Research funding to be concentrated in centres of excellence
An article in Saturday’s Times has suggested that one of the key recommendations in Adrian Smith’s review of postgraduate research in the UK will be to concentrate research in fewer universities.
Nuclear power in your shed….
Two articles published over the weekend show how energy-entrepreneurs and some academics are ready to challenge status quo thought on nuclear power. The Times features the endeavours of companies like Hyperion Power Generation who are trying to produce reactors small enough for our back gardens, while the Guardian highlights claims from an Oxford Professor of Physics, Wade Allison, that the threat to human health of low level radiation has been much exaggerated.
COP15 news of rising tides questioned
The Sunday Times has raised questions over claims from another climate scientist, Professor Stefan Rahmstorf, after many climate scientists appear to question the methodology behind his claim that sea levels will rise 6 feet by 2100.
