The infrared sky
NASA’s Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) has now blasted off to pick up the glow of hundreds of millions of astronomical bodies.  The Daily Mail reports that one of WISE’s key tasks is to scan for objects that pose a threat to Earth and try to capture images of a large gas planet on the outskirts of our solar system.

CT scans’ cancer threat
A journal paper published in the Archives of Internal Medicine which claims to have proven greater cancer risk from Computed Tomography scans than previously thought has been picked up by the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail.

$350m for clean tech fund
Steven Chu, the US Secretary of Energy, has promised a $350m fund for the development of renewable energy projects in the developing world.  Speaking at the climate summit in Copenhagen, Chu described the initiative as an expansion of agreements reached earlier this year with India and China for joint research on energy efficiency, electric vehicles, and carbon capture and technology.
