Watch IOP, James Dyson & Brian Cox on CNBC – too few scientists!
CNBC World Business is airing a five minute news story this week, across a wide range of international channels, that includes interviews with Peter Main (that’s IOP’s director of education and science), James Dyson and Brian Cox.
The news reel explores the crucial role science and tech will play in the world’s economic recovery, and, in particular, Europe and the US’s need to ensure a healthy pipeline of young scientists.

An interesting comment made was that courses should be more hands on, the Open University, of which I am a student, is removing a lot of practical elements from their material, as are secondary schools, on the basis that “employers prefer to train their people”.
This is complete nonsense, if this were the case there would be no need for schools and universities, and also removes a lot of the elements that students find interesting about the topic particularly at secondary level.
